The Department of Georgia American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. was honored to receive a Governor's Commendation in recognition of our service, our ongoing support of Veterans, Military families, and our continuing commitment to honor and remember our fallen sons and daughters.

The President’s Own United States Marine Band

On October 27, 2026, representatives of the Department of Georgia American Gold Star Mothers and their families had the distinct pleasure of attending a magnificent performance by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band at the Atlanta Symphony in Atlanta.
The evening began with a wonderful VIP reception, followed by an extraordinary concert showcasing the remarkable talent, precision, and musical excellence of the United States Marine Band.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came during a special meet-and-greet with members of the band. Our Gold Star Mothers had the opportunity to share stories of their beloved sons with Marines who listened with genuine compassion, warmth, and respect. These personal connections remind us that honoring our fallen service members extends beyond ceremonies and memorials. It lives in the simple but powerful act of remembering their names and listening to their stories.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the members of The President’s Own United States Marine Band, especially MSgt Shannon Kiewitt, for their gracious hospitality and the time they spent with our families. We are equally grateful to Renee Contreras with the Atlanta Symphony and everyone who helped coordinate such a thoughtfully planned and memorable evening.

From the beautiful reception to the final notes of the concert and the meaningful conversations that followed, the entire experience was truly exceptional.
Thank you for an unforgettable evening and for helping us keep the memories of our fallen heroes alive.
In honor of our sons and daughters. Our membership honors all manner of deaths and all who
raised their right hand to serve this great nation.
We also welcome fathers, step-fathers, siblings, and grandparents of fallen service members as
associate members, joining us in our mission to honor and support the families of our heroes.
